The Sky Is Taking A Picture Of Us

Sun over hillsphoto by warzauwynn
Does that photo not just stop your breath? Amazing, right?

Hope you all had a super long weekend. (As in, I hope no one burnt their skin on illicit fireworks.) Mine was great for a few reasons, not the least of which was having yesterday off. It was the first day in two weeks that I could sleep in past 6:30. My body was grateful. Seriously. The conversation went something like this:

BODY: Yo, what’s up?
ME: What do you mean?
BODY: Dude, you’ve been working for 12 straight days. I’m beat.
ME: Sorry, you can sleep in on Monday.
BODY: Excellent! Dude, it’s about time. Right on.
ME: You talk like Keanu Reeves.
BODY: Shut up.

Anyhow, yesterday was nice.

My trip to my sister-in-law’s was great, too, especially since I got to hang with my favorite 4-year-old. Sometimes kids say the most insightful things. Like when you’re driving down the road right before sunset—when the sun is still above the tree line and blindingly bright—and this happens:

LITTLE GUY: The sun’s too bright.
YOU: It makes it hard to see, huh?
LITTLE GUY: It’s like a camera.
YOU: Yup, and when you close eyes you see bright white spots.
LITTLE GUY: It’s like a picture. Like the sky’s taking a picture of us.

I’m not sure an adult could have ever put it so beautifully.

There are probably three other things you should know right now. Don’t expect them to be related in any way. You’ll only be disappointed.

1. I’m kind of obsessed with tea year-round, but this time of year it’s iced tea. And I created an amazing concoction (insert evil laugh here). Before I reveal the secret (another evil laugh, please) let me warn you: I own an iced tea maker and I know how to use it. What, everyone doesn’t own one? Here you go: two parts English Breakfast loose tea and one part lychee loose tea. Amazingness ensues. (Yeah, let’s do one more evil laugh. Mwah ha ha.)

2. I saw the latest Twilight movie, and dragged The Man to it. He was not a happy camper, especially when Jacob and Edward got all touchy-feely. I’ll be honest, I’m not a sparkly vampire kinda girl. And I’m also not a shirtless werewolf kinda girl either. So, I wasn’t a big fan.

And also: If Jacob sheds his clothes when he turns werewolf, why is he always shirtless but wearing jean shorts? If he’s OK with ruining his shorts to get all big and hairy, why is he so against ruining his shirt, too? The things that go through my mind as Bella and Edward stare longingly into each other’s eyes.

3. Finally, as promised last week, I’ll clue you into all of the interesting nutrition tidbits I learned during my conference. I braved many a subzero conference room for this stuff, so it’s got to be good, right? Either way, stay tuned.

How was your holiday weekend? Anyone else see Twilight—and want to commiserate with me? Or, if you’re a fangirl (and, really, I won’t judge) which side are you on? For me, I’m on Team Jacob Gets a Clue and Gives Up as well as Team Edward Becomes a Man and Fights (Literally) For His True Love.

Oh, that IS a beautiful metaphor! I swear, sometimes kids are bigger geniuses than anyone can ever be. :D I’m not a fan of Twilight, either. I find the plotline shallow and the characters rather annoying… and I don’t like Robert Pattinson. I wouldn’t mind looking at shirtless werewolf guy, though (I always wonder about those things. I mean, think of all the movie history “transforming” things you see – when humans become superheroes, where does there costume come from? Thin air? Jeeeeeesh.)

I agree with you. I think that’s an awesome team to be on. :D

You’re so right! Kids do say the most insightful things!

Despite being in a car most of the weekend… it was great! The weather in Rhode Island was incredible! Perfect for a wedding!

I can’t wait to see the movie! I’m pumped! I love Twilight and I’m not ashamed to admit it! However, my hubby would never ever go with me — yours is a trooper! And I’m Team Edward :)

Can’t wait to hear what you learned at the conference!

Ah, Tracey….I am a Twilight lover! haha! I am definitely a Team Edward gal…I find him to be very attractive! But I LOVE series. I loved Harry Potter, loved Twilight…I would love to start another one…any reccomendations??

I love Harry Potter, too, even though I only recently started the series and have a deadline of November to finish it. Because I’m totally seeing that two-part final movie.

Another great YA series: The Hunger Games. The second one, Catching Fire, is out but the third, Mockingjay, isn’t. I have it pre-ordered. The series is great…I read each in a day.

Yes, I second that! The Hunger Games are good!

Kids really do have the most amazing insights…things that we totally take for granted, they see in a whole different light. It is kind of amazing…especially when they don’t ruin things by immediately saying, “I need to potty” afterwards.

There is such a thing as an iced tea maker?

Yup, it’s like a coffee maker kind of. I got it as a gift and I’m not sure the giver knew how much I’d love it. It definitely is the most-used appliance in my kitchen. Read into that as you like. ;)

I have an iced tea maker and I hate ice tea ;) It makes awesome ice coffee though!

You crack me up! Ice tea makers = awesome. :)

My hubby would be the same way watching Eclipse. He’d go, but he wouldn’t be thrilled. ;)

I’ve read the books and enjoy the movies, so I guess that makes me a fan. The reason Jacob runs around without a shirt, is well, because he can! I have no problem with that! :) In the books, he hides shorts in the forest so he’s not running around naked. See, you should read the books!

Thank you! That makes a lot more sense!!

HAAA, shirtless werewolf and jean shorts. You owe your boo a lot for dragging his shirted self to see that.

Sometimes kids just rock at helping you see things in a completely different light. Glad you had fun with the fam!

I thought I was the only one who didn’t like Twilight! I feel so much better now. I started off with the first movie, because everyone and their mother was talking about it, and I was disappointed. Then I figured that books are always better than the movie versions anyway, so I tried the books but I found them incredibly boring. My sister dragged me to the second movie and that was the final straw. Now I’m putting my foot down. No more. Honestly, I don’t understand why people like it but I’m afraid to say anything because I don’t want to hurt anyone’s Twi-feelings…but it was two hours of bad acting, boring long silences, very little action, a story that is far fetched but not creative enough to be entertaining, and an incredibly unconvincing love connection. But don’t tell anyone I said that…

By the way, I’m fascinated by the way kids see the world…they are interested in everything and they notice the little things. It’s pretty amazing.

Kids are so insightful aren’t they? What a great comment and beautiful picture. I haven’t seen the movie but it doesn’t sound like one I’d enjoy too much. :)

1. Kids totally say the cutest things!! 2. I have never made iced tea, but I need to because I LOVE tea. 3. And I’ve never seen any of those movies, although I have this strange feeling that I — like you — just won’t really get it. But we’ll see…
