life: super powers not included

Berry Brain

Raspberriesphoto by darwin bell

Before I go any further into this post, lemme remind you that the final beauty giveaway is almost over. Tonight, that’s it. So go here and enter one last time. Or three, really, since there are three ways to enter per day.

Besides, isn’t there some big and wondrous question you’ve been fixating on but had no one to ask? (Like, for instance, who would win a physical throwdown between Paula Deen and Bobby Flay?) Well, that’s what your entry is for. Ask away.

There, you’ve been reminded. My job is done.

I’m erring on the short side today because A. It’s Friday, and thus my brain is fried from too much work (it’s a real syndrome), and B. I’m still mentally exhausted from the rollercoaster ride that was Mockingjay. And if you haven’t already bought The Hunger Games series, then take my word now that I’m totally done: STOP EVERYTHING AND GO READ IT NOW.

Ahem. Right, so this is a health blog, yes? And you expect more than a book review. So how about this:

Natural compounds in berries may protect against age-related memory loss or a drop in mental functioning. Not that you all don’t eat berries, but consider this another reason to mix ’em into your smoothie. Or shovel them into your mouth by the handful.

Or grab a partner and take turns throwing them into each other’s mouth.

What’s your favorite berry? Right now, I’m loving my morning oatmeal with blueberries.

OK, and finally—because it’s Friday—here you go:

Thanks for the puppy fix.

Now to answer your question…I’m on a bit of a blueberry fix my bad-self. I toss a handful into my morning vanilla protein shake…it’s berry good and I am berry corny.

That is by far the cutest puppy. How can one pick a favorite berry? I guess I’d have to choose raspberries because they are growing in my parents back yard, and free is always good.

How much is a little box (I’m talking 4×4x2 inches here) of blueberries in the US? It’s like $1.50 here. We consider that expensive… but we don’t get many berries here so I guess the most common would just be strawberries. No raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries. :S

Tracey Reply:

Hm, it depends where you get them. Farmers markets and regular grocery stores are cheaper. If I’m remembering correctly, Whole Foods charges a kidney and the right lung. *Cough. Cough. *

I think I died a little when I saw that puppy pic. I need a puppy. Oh, I need a puppy. :)

All time favorite berries = raspberries. Preferably found while hiking.

I know, he’s unnaturally adorable. If I saw him on the side of the road I’d scoop him up so fast his owner wouldn’t know he was missing.

I love blueberries. One of the few things I miss from living in VA is the blueberry farm that was literally 2 miles from my house. Pick your own, dirtcheap blueberries. It was like my version of Christmas.

Oh my gosh, this little guy is adorable!! I just want to grab him and bring him home!

And berries…I’m on a blackberry kick right now. Love them in my oatmeal.

Also, question about The Hunger Games series… I read your post about Mocking Jay and saw how much you raved about it. But I’ve never heard of the series before. Is it fiction or non? What type of books are they? I suppose I could google it, but now I’m nervous to after your warnings about all the spoilers! I hate knowing the endings to books.

Tracey Reply:

Right–awesome is not a real book classification. The series is YA dystopian. If they were nonfiction life would kinda totally suck. If you want a description of the plots, the links in my e-mail are all OK to click. They go to Amazon, which won’t tell you more than you’d read on the inside flaps provided you don’t go read any reviews.

I should also add a one-line summary of the first book: In a dystopian society, the government pits children against one another in a televised fight to the death, called the Hunger Games.

haha, I just came back and looked at this (sorry!!) Thanks for the info! The premise sounds sort of awful — but in a really fascinating, I want to read it sort of way. I’ve been looking for a new series to get into, and I think this may be it!

Oh, yes, if you click the Notify me of followup comments you’ll get my replies instantly. The idea does sort of sound horrible, but it’s hard to put down. And I’ll promise this: no cannibalism. ;)

I would like that puppy and those berries; to go, please. He is so precious I can hardly stand it!
I’m loving this blog :)
My favorite berries are blueberries right now because they’re awesomely in season, but I love raspberries right off the bush the most.

Can we please grab a drink sometime? I totally enjoy your style, lady!

Puppy and berries?! Doesn’t get better.

I love blackberries, omg so tasty.

Tracey Reply:

Yes, please. We would have so much fun and probably get food with the drinks and then end the night by rodeo riding sharks.

I love blueberries.. I actually just told my husband today, if I could live on a blueberry farm, I would be in complete bliss… and he’d always know where to find me, stuffing my face with organic delicious blueberries :)

AWH, This pictures is adorable! It doesn’t help that I want a dog so badly! Berries are definitely my top fruit this summer. I’ve been buying the frozen mixed berries with raspberries, boysenberries, and blueberries… so good with greek yogurt!

Oh that puppy made my day…and that takes alot to do ;) .

Love all berries. I think I have to give it up to the BlueBerry though. Great on its own – even better with yogurt, granola and maple syrup :)

Okay, you’ve gone and done it… You’ve made me want to buy yet another book, even though I already have 8 crates full in my basement. Ha, ha. Totally going to pick up that series, as I’ve heard so many good things about it.

Sweet puppy! I want to scoop him up and take him home!

Thanks for the book recommendations! I’m always looking for something great to read—I’m a voracious reader, and even the largest books hardly last a week with me! I’ve heard of the Hunger Games series, but I wasn’t sure about them… I was worried they’d be too “young” for me, if that makes sense? What did you think of them?

Grrr I missed the end of the giveaway. Darnit!!

Blackberries are my favorite. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad blackberry, actually. Although…I do have this weird fear that there’s little bugs burrowed in the berry. And, I actually think this is the first time I’ve ever admitted to that!!

[Reply]

Tracey Reply:

Oh no. Now I’m going to fear bugs. This new irrational fear may be based off your irrational fear, but let’s face it: It’s totally plausible.
