life: super powers not included

Oh, Men

Piggly Wigglyphoto by steve snodgrass

Most of my longtime readers know that I don’t go grocery shopping. (And if you’re new: Welcome. I love new people. And now you know my secret.)

I have nothing against grocery shopping. In fact, it’s a life goal of mine to do a whole grocery-shopping trip on my own one day when my knees don’t hate me. (Because, unlike me, my knees hate grocery shopping almost as much as running, or climbing stairs, or doing deep lunges.)

So, of course, The Man does all of our shopping. Which I appreciate. It’s great. It’s helpful. But.

Sometimes things get out of hand. Like when I tell him to pick up a bag of pita chips from Trader Joe’s.

He got them all right.

And popped potato chips.

Chips5

And baked potato chips.

Chips6

And tortilla chips.

Chips7

Six bags.

Chips9

For anyone too lazy to count, that’s 11 bags of chips.

Chips1

No, we are not hosting a party.

Oh, men.

Oh, I love ‘em too. But I’m not sure we needed 11 all at once. :)

I am not really a chip person, I just never think about them, but I love to eat them when they are in front of me. but i LOVE grocery shopping! although it usually winds up with me roaming the aisles for an hour and then re-roaming to put all the unnecessary stuff in my cart back on the shelves. I hope we can still be friends. :)

That’s what I loved most about grocery shopping too…the wandering and discovering new things. Ah, some day!

Oh, wow. Pita chips… I don’t understand the difference between all these?! Obviously I’m not a chip connoisseur like you are ;)

I’ll be honest, for some of them there is no difference. He bought two of each corn chip.

That is so funny!!! But my husband is the same way! We currently have 6 bags of chips right now…why? Um…I guess for variety? haha!

Say hello to a lot of chips the next couple weeks! I love variety too though and am often indecisive. I can’t say I could handle 10 bags though because I’d want to try them all at once. Now you need some good dip selections!

Too funny. Dan and I have not purchased 11 bags of chips total the whole time we’ve been married. Gotta love the man.

Those bags are all so colorful! Maybe now you should have a party!

I know, I’ll give him credit for picking out really pretty bags–not that he was going for that at all. I should have a party. That’s the right kinda thinking!

Ummmm… I live alone. I eat alone. I shop alone. And I’m a GREAT shopper. Although, my dad on the other hand… Ever have “no name cheese whiz”?

None of my previous girlfriends could cook or grocery shop. They were actually SCARED to go in to the grocery store alone.

Tracey Reply:

Hm, maybe it’s not a man thing. Maybe it’s my man’s thing!

(And, now that you mention it, The Man did buy no-name cheese whiz during the Blizzard of ‘10!)

Hilarious! I love that he went to such an extreme. Seeing that they’re from Trader Joe’s is half heartening. But I have to wonder, was the whole chip aisle on sale? On second thought, don’t tell me.

Tracey Reply:

I wish! No sale.

hahahaha – this is awesome. whenever my mom would send my dad to the grocery store, he’d always come back w/ some gourmet cake from the bakery. it was AWESOME! :)

So you’re saying the husband likes potato chips…?

lol… that’s actually how I am with boxes of cereal. I can’t help myself. I counted last week. 10 boxes. For just me. I can’t pass up a good sale… especially on Kashi… ever!

My husband likes to buy in bulk. If one is a good price or something he likes, then he will come home with a dozen. Sometimes I think, “Isn’t he embarassed buying that many at one time?”

18 Jill { 07.14.10 at 10:19 pm }

Ha ha I laughed so hard! I totally don’t trust my husband to do grocery shopping. My problem is he would come home with 11 packages of cookies, or ice cream.

Hahah. That’s all I can say. Your husband is funny.
Although I will agree with Scott from YourInnerSkinny and say that it is not just men…my mother would probably do the same thing. She is the type of woman who, if you tell her you like something, she will buy you 10 bags of it and then ask you every day if you need more. She no longer buys my groceries…but I remember when I was in high school I asked her to buy these crackers that I liked and she literally bought 10 boxes. She does the same thing for herself…she buys way much more food than she needs. I just laugh.
