The Road To Home

Yesterday I told you all about my Charlottesville wine tour with The Man. I’m pretty sure some of you were jealous. To make you feel better, I’ll remind you that I have Runner’s Knee in both knees, Achille’s tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis. There, I don’t seem so cool now, do I?

I also told you I’d describe our ride home. Instead of shooting north to D.C., The Man and I took the scenic route. We drove 75 miles of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, which took about four hours with the amount we stopped to take in the views and spot deer. (The Man tried to snap a picture of one, but deer are faster than The Man.)

Charlottesville at darkSo, we spent one more night in Charlottesville.

Skyline DrEven though the sky was overcast and hazy, we could see for miles from overlooks in the park.

Skyline Dr TreesWe took in the trees.

Skyline FlowersAnd flowers.

Skyline DriveAnd panoramic views that got more spectacular as the elevation increased.

Skyline MattWe took the obligatory tourist photos…

Skyline TraceyEach of us alone against the backdrop. With squinty eyes looking into the sun.

Where's WaldoAnd The Man went for a quick climb. Where’s Waldo The Man?

Skyline FieldThen nothing but country for miles and miles. Suddenly Alexandria seems much busier than it was four days ago.

This place gives me a sense of calm. Where do you feel calm and at peace?

I love skyline drive. I also love Virginia and all its beautiful mountains. My favorite place is this huge reservoir in this secluded little area…you’re not supposed to swim there, so hardly anyone is there, but we do and it’s perfect.

That is beautiful! I have a random knee question for you…doesn’t it hurt to be in a car for a long time with your knee in that locked position. Mine kill me if I have to stay in the “sitting position” for long periods! When I go on trips I have to put the seat all the way back and then put my legs up on the dashboard. (Keith hates it because my little toes make marks on his window…haha!)

Yes, that’s another benefit of having cartilage damage. Would you believe me if I told you that one of the main reasons we bought the car we did is because it had a ton of leg room and the seat wasn’t too high (which makes your legs bend more)? I also get footprints all over the windshield. The Man is over it by now. :)

Those pictures are so pretty. I am jealous! Too bad you couldn’t hike with the man, but playing Where’s The Man? is the next best thing. :)

Where IS he in that photo????

I feel most tranquil… in bed. Honestly. Whenever I want to relax I just go… to bed. Nature’s nice and all, but I’m usually more stressed about sunburn, bugs, and dirt than I am about relaxing. I’m not an outdoor person. :S

The landscape looks beautiful. Squinty-eyed you is cute! ;)

I feel at peace just looking at those stunning pictures! Peace is hard to come by here at home, sometimes I have to lock myself in my bathroom to get away for a minute!

You are too cute Tracey. As soon as I figure out my DC plans I will let you know so we can hopefully meet up!

What beautiful pics! (and the people ;) ) haha.
Thanks for your opinion on the job situation…but I don’t know…accepting a job doesn’t mean you have to stay with it if your not happy…been there doing that…

Tracey Reply:

I agree–I don’t think you have to stay with a job you hate. I think I didn’t get that you had been to the job before.

I love your comments about “The Man” and the obligatory tourist shots – too funny! The drive does look beautiful :)

I feel calm in Colorado, where I grew up and moved back to last summer, especially this time of year – the mountains look so beautiful and the weather is perfect.

Beautiful pictures again!
I feel very calm when I’m near the ocean (not in it, I’m terrified to go in it, I just like to be near it…it’s a strange quirk). I love going to the beach, or just listening to the waves. Especially when there aren’t a lot of people around. I don’t live near an Ocean though…Lake Ontario will have to do. As polluted as it is.

Gorgeous pictures! I’m not sure where I find peace and calm….probably on a beach somewhere with no cellular or internet connections. Ahhh…bliss!
