life: super powers not included

Onward to Orlando

Airshow planephoto by jim bahn

Thanks for all of your anniversary wishes. My mother says thanks, too. We both think you’re really great.

I’d say Happy Friday but it really isn’t. That’s because I’m working this weekend. Grumble.

So right now I’m flying to Orlando for a big work conference that will force me to get up at the unspeakable hour of 6 a.m. on a weekend. Weekend! I’ll be in the sunshine state until Tuesday. Needless to say, I’m going to need a direct infusion of caffeine to make it all the way to next weekend.

But I won’t stress about that right now. And I won’t think about how this trip is going to make my knees scream for probably another month. I’ll just relish the four hours I have on this Friday morning to sit around and read.

That’s what I do on a plane. The movies usually rot and listening to music bores me by the time we take off. So I grab a new book and dig in.

Well I’m off. I’m wishing all of you who have a weekend (no, I’m not bitter) a happy one.

How do you pass the time on an airplane?

At least you’ll be in Orlando…which I’m not sure if that’s near the beach or if you’ll have time for the beach…Plane rides definitely aren’t my favorite either. I usually look out the window as long as I can stand and then try to read a book/magazine.

Have a safe trip to the sunshine state, sunshine!

I can whip out a mean blog post or two on a flight. There’s so much material you can dream up while traveling!

You could try to work your way over to the new Harry Potter Wizarding World at Universal:)

Dress cool, it’ll be hot.

On the plane I love to catch up on reading. Don’t forget to laugh at Sky Mall mag.

Travel safely and I will be sending good, non-achy, knee vibes east in your direction.

I used to hate being trapped on a plane but since having children, if I am flying without them, I love the forced quiet time. I usually read and catch up on the “news” from People magazine. If the kids are there, most of my time is eaten up bending myself like a pretzel to retrieve whatever item they have dropped under the seat in front of them for the 900th time (no, I am not bitter about it).

Have fun in Orlando! I usually pass the time on planes using electronics like PSP, computer, etc. I bring some source of entertainment like a book or music, but I always end up doing something else :D

I usually just read a book, now that I don’t take the subway it’s really the only time I read through a book quickly.

6 am? The conference organizer should be punished for such a thing – obviously a morning person. I hope the early start meand you get free time in the afternoon/evening to check out Orlando. I read, work, watch the movies, or a combo of all on flights – depends on the distance, whether it’s a work trip and what the movie offerings are ;)

Crossword puzzles…I am definitely a dork like that! :) Have a good weekend although I am sorry you have to work! Blech!

So sad you have to work, but I sort of can’t wait to hear about the weekend. Somehow I just know that you’ll have some commentary about the conference that will make me laugh if nothing else .

Reading on the plane is hard because I get super sleepy about 3 seconds into the first page. But you’re right about the movies- I can’t do it. I do crosswords, read US weekly, and doze on and off, miserably for 4 hours. Oh, and snack.

Well, here is a confession- I pop an Ativan when I fly.

Flying makes me anxious, especially long flights…and Ativan prevents panic attacks AND makes me sleep through it so it’s not quite so bad.

Sorry you have to work this weekend. I would try to say something positive about it, but I have no idea what this conference is all about, so instead I’m just going to say that I hope it goes by quickly and your knees don’t hurt too badly. And you might not be able to take an Ativan on the plane, but I hear Gravol works too if you just want to sleep through it ;)

I should write, but I usually fill the time with pointless, celeb magazines. :) I never read them, but I do on flights for some reason. Ha, ha.

I normally read or sleep on planes! Have fun on your trip–it’ll be next weekend before you know it =)

Sorry you have to work this weekend!

The best way to pass time on a flight is to catch up on movies. I find that I can’t focus well on reading material for some reason!

Have a great time Tracey – or try to at least!

you’ll be in orlando and not to visit the harry potter theme park? hopefully you’ll get to do SOME non-working while you’re there.
