Weekend Wishes–And a Bit of Reality

This has nothing to do with my weekend. Unfortunately.

Hooray for Friday. (Do I say that every week? It’s because I really mean it.) Hope you’ve all had a great week so far. The Man and I are in a money-saving mood so tonight we’re making a home-cooked dinner instead of going out to eat. When you can’t really do much physically, eating out is about the only way to get out of the house. I know, thrilling.

I don’t know about you, but this weekend’s shaping up to be ho-hum. I’m going to do a little writing, probably clean, and most definitely organize. And if I don’t go to the gym both days, I’m blogging my address and asking anyone within a 50 mile radius to come over and beat me up. (All right, so I’m being a little dramatic.)

Most weekends I have big dreams but rarely get everything done I need to. (See last weekend’s failed gym attempts.) So here you go—my list of dreams and the unfortunate reality:

Girl on ledge

Dream: Frolic in the 80 degree temps wearing a tank top and flip flops.

Reality: Bundle up and hope it’s not rainy and freezing.

Dream: Go for a walk in the park. I might even skip a little bit depending on who’s watching.

Reality: Sit on the couch after too much cleaning has caused my knees to ache.

Dream: Go to dinner and a movie with The Man. Only this time there’s no wait for dinner. And there are no rowdy teens in the theater. (I sound old, I know. But even as a teen I had no tolerance for talking in the theater. I’ve yelled at a few smart-alecky men in my day.)

Reality: Skip dinner and a movie because we’re saving money. But if we did go, it’d certainly involve an hour wait for a table and some mid-movie texting. So not LOL.

That’s pretty much how I look in the morning.

Dream: Wake up at a reasonable hour each day so my body doesn’t go into a warped weekend mode. Start the day off right with exercise and a big bowl of steel cut oats.

Reality: Wake up at 10:30, feel guilty that I slept in, and eat a small breakfast because it’s so close to lunchtime.

Dream: Get a last-minute invite to the Oscars. To walk the red carpet. In the most perfect gown ever. Make Penelope Cruz jealous.

Reality: Watch the Oscars on TV with The Man. And spend the entire show explaining who everyone is. As in: “Him? That’s Steve Martin. You know him from Father of the Bride.”

What are your weekend wishes? And what do you really intend to do?

HA! I’m on a money saving mission, too! Mission: POSSIBLE! So instead of a mani-pedi that I REALLY REALLY want I’ll be doing that my own bad self!

Joanna–I do my own mani-pedis all the time. I’d rather waste money on a massage or facial at the spa!

Love this post!

I also love the images you put in your posts!!

I would LOVE to go to the oscars and make everyone jealous!!

Oh, and I despise texting teens and people who clap out loud at movies.

Have a great weekend :)

Wouldn’t it be awesome to go to the Oscars!? And I hate teens in theatres too. I sound like such a old hag, but it’s true! I shoot them dirty looks and I’m normally the person who can get along with anyone! I’m right there with you on sleeping in. If I glance over and it’s 9am or after I BOUND out of bed thinking that I’m losing valuable weekend time! I always plan a long run for Saturday, but then I talk myself out of it because I have hockey games on Sunday and I never “want to be too sore to play” – ha! I need to stop that : )

Happy weekend!

Aw come on, maybe your dreams are a little out of reach, but you can always put a positive spin on reality! Such as, making skipping dinner into a wonderful home-cooked meal experience with The Man. Have a good weekend…I’m sure you’ll have fun!

Hahahaha!!! How did you get your hands on my weekend agenda? Let’s get together and do all those things together. Not the dream ones, the reality. No, I kid. We’ll make this weekend different. I won’t cry once. Ok, I won’t cry twice.
And I am so thrilled for the Oscars. I’m going to put on my prettiest red jammies and toast to myself for at least three hours.
Come over!

Andrea–Sounds like a party! Can we vote on winners? I’ll bring the Champagne. :)

I love this post! I envy anyone who can sleep in. My body and mind don’t let me get past 7 or 8 (8 is a miracle!).
Dream for this weekend: Houston for date night and finding the perfect new bedding set.
Reality: That is reality! And I got to pick the restaurant!
However, I second you on the Oscars. It would be amazing to get a gown designed just for you and to walk around with everyone thinking about how gorgeous you look while you eye all the stars and contemplate running and jumping on Gerard Butler!

Astrid–OK, your weekend sounds way cooler than mine. How fun! As for the Oscars, I’d be more likely to sneak up on Matt Damon than Gerard Butler.

I am with you on every dream, except for the 80 degree weather one…I don’t like the heat! I’d much rather be warm and cozy when it’s chilly outside.

If it is any consolation I will be doing much of your reality too…cleaning, eating at home, etc.

PS – I am a huge Jennifer Garner fan too…she just seems so real and so sweet, and I think her and Ben make a fabulous couple. I kind of want to be her actually. I have problems, I know.

Ameena–I have problems too. I’ve wanted to be her since Alias, and I’ve stalked her (figuratively via gossip mags!) ever since.

Great post! I just wish my weekend could be cleaning free, but the reality is that I’m going to be doing lots of cleaning!

Hope your weekend is great.

I’m with you on the weather and the movie thing. In fact my husband and I skipped watching a movie at home last night, because we didn’t want the additional charge on our cable bill.

Oh, dear. Life has gotten away from me again. What are mani-peds?

We’re having a gray, chilly, quiet weekend here. There’s plenty to do — housework, digging up last season’s garden and getting it ready for summer tomatoes and cukes; laundry. Endless laundry. Hmmm. I have a nice King Athur’s Flour scone mix. I could get flour all over the kitchen and make scones to have with coffee … Decisions, decisions…

Wren–It’s a manicure and pedicure. Spa speak! :)

Oh my god Tracey….I have been useless this weekend (like every weekend)…unable to write or read or anything…just kinda “brain-numb”…eat, sleep, dream
literally
Great post.

I’d love to go hiking, mountain biking or snowboarding – but too crowded, pricey and muddy :-P So, going shopping and playing in my kitchen this weekend, as well as 18 loads of laundry – not entirely horrible :-)
