Jennifer Aniston’s Curvy? Huh?

Ever have one of those moments where you think you’re taking crazy pills but you realize those were just your vitamins and, yes, you’re really going insane? That’s kind of how I felt today when I read this post from the New York Times magazine blog:
Maybe it’s just me, but I could have sworn that some of the ladies who showed up at the Golden Globes on Sunday had put on a little weight. It’s almost criminal to name names, because the very actresses whose body-mass indexes have been the subject of endless tabloid speculation are the very ones now sporting sexier curves. You could definitely see the difference if you concentrated solely on the upper arms. Instead of a Barbie-doll circumference, there was suddenly, amazingly, a womanly roundness to their frames. More Marilyn than Twiggy, that’s for sure.
As for those unmentionable actresses, I can’t be certain exactly who she was talking about. But she did have a photo of Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, and Courtney Cox above the post. Right, they’re downright hefty. That’s usually what comes to mind when I think of Jennifer Aniston. In fact, just the other day I saw her in a magazine the other day, and I thought, “Boy, I’m glad I don’t look like that!”
In all seriousness, most actresses (except for, say, Gabourey Sidibe of Precious) could stand to gain a few pounds. Or more. What’s that tell normal women—you know, those who don’t spend two hours a day, seven days a week sweating their bottoms off in personal training sessions? What’s that say to all the women who eat cake—and, um, enjoy it? Sheesh, I’m not trying to lose weight or anything, but even I would love to have Jennifer Aniston’s, Courtney Cox’s or Kate Hudson’s body. And if they’re curvy, then that makes me…
All of this reminds me of how much I hate the word curvy when referring to teensy actresses like Kate Winslet, Eva Mendez, and now these three twigs. So. Not. Curvy. Is this new upper-arm-scrutinizing trend just another add-on to that annoying terminology? As in: Look! Did you see Kate Hudson’s arms? You know, when she squeezed them tight to her side they squished out just enough that she looked curvy.
What are your thoughts? Do you honestly think that these skinny minis have heaping arm fat? Would you consider them curvy? Can you spot the fat in these photos without using an electron microscope? Weigh in. (Hardy Har Har.)

I think all three of them look great, and healthy, not curvy in a bad way… but curvy in a good way!

Well… They don’t look like they’re on the verge of death, so if that’s what “curvy” means, hell yeah, hollywood, please go curvy.

The only curves these women have are from the silicone bra inserts they most likely have glued to the place where their natural breasts would be if they had a healthy body weight. DEPRESSING.

All of this makes me so very tired. The Golden Globes were a festival of body insecurities!!

This really surprises me! Jennifer Aniston of all people??? I was just noticing over the past few weeks how skinny she is! I’ve been reading about how much yoga she does, and I’ve been like, wow she has an incredibly tiny body, even as she ages. Crazy…Hollywood and the way they pick people apart.

WOW! That is all I can say. It is no wonder that women have body image issues in this country when we are calling Jennifer Aniston or Kate Hudson curvy. Give me a flipping break! It honestly makes me mad!

All 3 of these women are very beautiful but their body shape is not the reality for 99.9% of us. And I have to think they work very, very hard and probably forego a lot of simple pleasures to stay that way. Sadly, they’re in an industry where that seems to be what you have to do. Luckily for me, I’m in an industry where cake is good!
